SAWSTON PLAYERS
SAWSTON, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, ENGLAND
The End
It is with much regret that we announce the end of Sawston Players. Dwindling numbers of members willing to act in productions and the lack of a permanent performance space were the main reasons for the decision of the AGM on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Hinxton Village Hall.
Sawston Players was an amateur drama group formed in 1964. Each January we presented a Winter Production (a Pantomime or Musical Play but in latter years a Murder Mystery). Each spring, we entered a play in the local One Act Drama Festivals and occasionally entered a Three Act Drama Festival. Every few years a production was taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Also there were occasional productions in the Autumn.
The 2007 Drama Festival entries were In The Bag by Frances Bartram and People Like Us and the Dramawise entries were The Quintessential Quintet by Frances Bartram and Ernie's Incredible Illucinations.
We did well at Sawston Drama Festival, In The Bag getting the Stage Presentation award and Kirsty Wright getting Best Supporting Actor or Actress award, The Quintessential Quintet gained Third Place, Best Junior Performance (for teamwork and technique), James Camp got Best Actor and Frances Bartram the Best New Play award. The Cambridge Drama Festival results were disappointing: In The Bag gained no awards and The Quintessential Quintet only managed the Costume award. The festival season was rounded off by five awards in total at Haverhill Drama Festival: People Like Us got the Adjudicator's Award, James Camp got the Youth Award (The Quintessential Quintet) and the other three were for Ernie's Incredible Illucinations (Runner Up, Best Cameo (Ben Chamberlain for 3 roles) and Best Director (Frances Brownlie)).
See the Sawston Players Awards page and the Dramawise Awards page for previous festival awards.
