Tudor Evening

A TUDOR EVENING based on the life and times of HENRY VIII

The following scenes will be presented for your entertainment:

"A Man for all Seasons" - Robert Bolt

In this scene, Henry's Chancellor, Sir Thomas More, who will not agree to a divorce between the king and Catherine of Aragon, is sentenced to death.

"The Merry Wives of Windsor " - Willam Shakespeare

In these two scenes, Sir John Falstaff, who has been trifling with the affections of both Mistress Page and Mistress Ford, is taught a lesson, as is Master Ford - a very jealous husband.

"Room in the Tower" - Hugh Stewart

In this scene, Lady Jane Grey, awaiting execution, is visited by the one person who could pardon her - Mary Tudor.

INTERVAL

"Twelfth Night" - William Shakespeare

Malvolio, Chief Steward to the Lady Olivia, entertains thoughts above his station - even aspiring to the affection of his mistress. His fellow-servants, resenting his officiousness, drop a forged letter for him, to find, hoping he will think it comes from his mistress. In this scene, Malvolio carries out what he believes are his employer's wishes.

"The Rose without a Thorn - Clifford Bax

When Henry's beloved wife, Catherine Howard, was found guilty of misconduct, she suffered execution on the scaffold, much against the natural wishes of her husband. In this scene, three travelling players are invited to present an interlude before the king at Hampton Court in the hope that it will take Henry's mind off that day's unhappy event.

There will be songs and dances between the scenes
