Since plans for the release of the Baby Whale l.p. were scuppered by the miners' strike and the three day week and consequent plastic shortage, it is only very recently that any of Baby Whale's recordings (for the DJM label) have now been released by Kissing Spell as a CD (KSCD931). Baby Whale were the first artistes to record at the then new residental stuidio, Rockfield Recording Studios, Monmouth, Wales. Tracks 1 to 9 on the CD were recorded at Rockfield and mixed at Trident in London. Tracks 10 to 12 are earlier versions of songs which were recorded at Rockfield but for technical reasons could not be transferred successfully*. These earlier versions were recorded at Wessex Studios, London.

(* If you have a Betamax video recorder with the PCM facility and are willing to lend it or sell it to me to enable some F1-PCM transfers, I would be very grateful. Suitable Sony models are SL-F1, SL-C9, SL-100HF. There are other models with the PCM facility (turns off the video drop out compensation - usually there is a switch at the rear of the machine) but I don't know the full list. Only machines in good working order are suitable. Email me at gpotter@dial.pipex.com.)
